Trainer Preston Ferris (on the rail) is aboard Tricia Greer’s homebred 3 year-old gelding, Jovial Jess (Strut the Stage - Jovial Zone, by Wild Zone) alongside stablemate A Bit of Who Do, a 4 year-old gelding (Vibank - Little Bit of Mom, by Bold Executive) bred
by Merv Kirby and owned by Tricia Greer, broke his maiden November 16, 2016 in his  rst career season.
Trainer Preston Ferris with Too Many Egbert’s who was claimed by Preston for owner Colleen Beaumier, off his last win on September 14, 2016. The now six year-old stakes winner (2014 Vice Regent Stakes) and son of Laura’s Lucky Boy - Mount Royer, by Silver Deputy, most recently  nished second in an Allowance Optional Claiming race at Turfway Park, Kentucky on January 14, 2017.
Following in the footsteps of his Grandfather Wil- liam E. (Smiley) Adams, Preston began his career at Woodbine in 2011 training then six-year mare, Special Moment, a homebred for owner Mervyn Kirby. The following year Special Moment returned to the barn along with Rock’s Caesar for Merv and Rhythm of Rock, Chante Dan and Go Shermin Go for owner Tricia Greer.
2015 was Preston’s best year as a trainer collecting wins with Rhythm of Rock, Go Shermin Go, Johnny Whitebird (for Pierre and Colleen Beaumier) at Fort Erie Race Track as well as wins with owner Tricia Greer’s Mighty Samson at Woodbine.
Originally from Alberta, Canada, Preston grew up
in Kentucky before returning to Canada to work as Assistant Trainer for Greg Tracy in Vancouver, British Columbia before striking out on his own at Woodbine.
The “A” in Preston’s PAF stable logo is for his grandfather’s last name Adams. William Adams
who was nicknamed Smiley (because he rarely ever smiled) passed away in 2003. Smiley Adams was most noted as the trainer of the talented multiple Graded Stakes winners Master Derby and Run Dusty Run.
They’re Back!
Heading onto the training track at Woodbine It was getting plenty of use with a number of trainers shipping their horses in the week the backstretch opened for the 2017 racing season which begins April 15.
Snowbirds Report
For the past six years the Woodbine Media Department has provided their Snowbirds report, chronicling the winter adventures of Woodbine- based trainers and jockeys currently plying their trade south of the border.
