Alderson Looks to Keep Momentum Going in 2017
Jockey Jeffrey Alderson is coming into 2017 off of a career best year in 2016 when he recorded his rst two stakes wins and earned close to $1.2 million in purses.
The son of former jockey turned trainer Anthony Alderson, Jeffrey and his brother Ryan were always at Fort Erie Race Track helping out in the barn with their dad. Jeffrey aspired to be a jockey and began galloping horses (when not in school) at age 16 for his dad and Trainers Lyle Morden and Layne Giliforte.
August 2011 at age 18 Jeffrey began as an apprentice jockey and quickly recorded 13 wins that season riding at the highly competitive Woodbine Racetrack. He moved his tack back to Fort Erie Race Track for 2012 and 2013 before shifting back to Woodbine in 2014.
Today the 24 year-old jockey is hoping to continue the momentum of last season, “I hope
to have a great and safe year. My agent Peter Gaskin has worked very hard for me and Trainer Bill Tharrenos was a big help in getting me going.”
Jeffrey has been aboard the Bill Tharrenos trained Shesanaturalblonde for all of her races in 2015 and 2016 which include 5 wins, and a third in the 2016 Victoriana Stakes.
Jeffrey’s rst stakes win in 2016 was aboard the Barbara Minshall trained Hopping Not Hoping in the Shady Well Stakes on August 13 for owners Murray Smith, Christopher Chop and Kathrin Von Gavel. The Tony Gattellaro trained, Ellan Vannin, provided Jeffrey with his second stakes winner
in the Ontario Lassie Stakes on November 30 for owner Jonathan Lee.
