Ola Docura will likely be sold at auction as a broodmare prospect after suffering a career-ending suspensory ligament injury in late August. The Hard Ball Stable owned, and Martin Drexler trained 4-year-old by Meadowlake, was the winner of the Canada Day Stakes on July 1 at Assiniboia Downs.

The annual CTHS (Manitoba Division) Yearling Sale was held at Assiniboia Downs on Tuesday, September 6.
A total of 42 yearlings were offered for sale with 29 sold. The gross sales amounted to $107,600, with the average price per yearling $3,710.34. This compared to 41 yearlings being offered in 2004 with 23 sold with the gross sales amounting to $93,200. The average price per yearling in 2004 was $4,052.17. In 2003, 61 yearlings were offered for sell with 41 sold. In 2003 the gross sales amounted to $150,200 with the average price paid per yearling being $3,663.42.
The “sales topper” for 2005 was $14,000 paid by Arnason Farms for hip # 11, Tall Tale, a dark bay/ brown gelding by Circulating out of the mare Canadian Danzig and the property of Ziprick Thoroughbreds.
Arnason Farms also paid $10,200 for hip # 8, Holly Hannah, a bay filly by Circulating out of the mare Atholton on consignment by Cam Ziprick, agent for Larry Faloon.
Other yearlings that drew a bid of over $10,000 was hip #36, an unnamed bay gelding by Jambalaya Jazz out of the mare Marcy Jo Ann, on consignment by Cam Ziprick, agent for Watson Bay Stables. This gelding was purchased by Dave Champion for $13,000.
And hip #18, a bay filly by Evansville Slew out of the mare Gaily Field, the property of Henry Hoesgen, was purchased by Dr. J. G. Badenhorst for $10,200.
Other yearlings receiving bids of $10,000 or more but “were not sold” included, hip #16, Dance Vision, a chestnut filly by Perfect Vision out of the mare Dancing Lady Luck, property of Ed Pawluk, received a bid of $10,000 (not sold); hip # 40, a chestnut gelding Classy Wrangler, by Classy Prospector out of the mare Pair Of Jeans, also the property of Ed Pawluk received a bid of $14,000 (not sold). Hip #44, a dark bay/brown filly by Bold N‚ Flashy out of the mare Prospecting Lady, consigned by Jane Dodds, agent for K Lee and D. Mitchell, received a bid of $16,500 (not sold).

Assiniboia Downs wraps up 2005 meet
The 2005 live thoroughbred racing season came to an end at Assiniboia Downs on Sunday, September 25.
Rohan Singh finished off the season as leading rider at the meet with a record of 399-84-71-49 and $844,296 with Jockey Larren Delorme in second with 395-62-58-56 and $533,048.
Trainer Ardell Sayler was a dominant leader again this season, topping the standings with 64 wins and $503,672 in purse earn- ings. Carl Anderson finished up in second with 40 wins and $538,001 in earnings. Watch for a complete season wrap-up in the next edition.
