New Breeders Alliance Hopes to Create New Marketplace for Breeders
Opportunity for New Trainer to Excel
Trainer Jeffrey Bowen (right) has taken over the conditioning duties for David Willmot’s Kinghaven Farms in 2005. Kinghaven’s long-time farm manager, Ian Black, is assisting Jeffrey at Woodbine.
Kinghaven currently has six horses in training at Woodbine including 2-year-old filly Seductively, by Thunder Gulch out of the talented mare Torrid Affair. Jeffrey and Ian are pictured here with 3-year-old maiden filly, Aliado.
A group of well known thoroughbred breeders have put their heads together to form a new breeders alliance which should provide an additional marketplace for Ontario breeders to sell their horses.
The North Eastern Thoroughbred Breeders Alliance (NETBA), was officially registered in April and is the brain child of a handful of breeders in Ontario, New York, Pennsylvania, Maryland and West Virginia.
Still in its infancy, the Alliance hopes to create a solid market- place for thoroughbreds in the North East by combining their experience and knowledge to promote and execute a two-year-old in training sale using private
funds. The Alliance expects that once word gets out, there will be a lot of interest from the breeders in each market.
The founding members of NETBA each felt that their individual markets were lacking the human and financial clout that is needed to compete with the rest of the world when it comes to attracting buyers for their horses. By combining their efforts and funding NETBA hopes to become an attractive market for emerging owners around the world as well as North America.
NETBA will focus on the 2-year-old market and hope to attract top name pinhookers which will ultimately provide a boost for the existing yearling sales in each region.
Stating that ‘time of of the essence’ the founding Alliance members are currently focusing on creating an initial plan and attracting interested members. The early reaction from the industry is positive and NETBA is aggressively optimistic that they will be able to host a 2-year-olds in Training Sale as early as 2006.
NETBA’s founding members hope to have a Board of Directors and a Managing Director by May 2005 and are expecting to be fully operational by September 2005.
Other plans for NETBA include creating a breeders bonus which follows the horse to any racetrack along with working with the racetracks in the five markets to create condition races for NETBA horses. They are also considering the idea of a bonus system for owners who buy NETBA horses.

ANTIFLAM
A little History on Making History
The reason for the invention of AntiFlam was purely to help a famous 23-year-old Standardbred Stallion named Balanced Image who foundered. His situation was critical complicated by other health issues.
A product was required to ease his pain quickly and be an alternative to the necessary Analgesics that was causing severe Gastro Intestinal distress.
(The whole story can be viewed on our website or the inside back page of the Omega Alpha catalogue).
Dr. Gordon Chang creator of the Omega Alpha product line was called in for a consultation in conjunction with many Veterinarians specialists.
Dr. Chang developed AntiFlam exclusively for Balanced Image and had him off the Analgesics within 1 month. When word got out through media attention many horseman requested the product to try in their own stables.
The following is just one of the many comments we have received from trainers using Antiflam for their horses
Jimmy Takter
“Tom Ridge started receiving Omega Alpha’s Antiflam shortly after the Hambletonian to
treat his chronic foot problems. I was impressed by how quickly the horse responded to the treatment. After seeing the improvement in Tom Ridge, I started giving his stablemate
Cabrini Hanover Antiflam. On Sept. 4, just 3 short weeks following the introduction of Antiflam, Tom Ridge trotted over DuQuoin in a two-heat, all-age World Record to win the $530,000 World Trotting Derby in 3, 1:50.2. That same day Cabrini Hanover captured the $702,100 She’s A Great Lady at Woodbine in a World Record time of p,2, 1:51s. Since then I have placed my entire stable on this product.” - Jimmy Takter
