In recognition of their tremendous Woodbine-best achievements in 2004, jockey Todd Kabel, trainer Sid Attard and owner Sam-Son Farm were presented with beautiful Concord watches April 17 at Woodbine in a walking ring ceremony.
Kabel, who won 156 races, including 36 a record-tying stakes scores last year en route to his fifth Sovereign Award (four as top rider, one as top apprentice), wins his third Concord watch. He collected a Concord timepiece after capturing riding titles in 2001 and 2004.
It was a welcome honour for the two-time Plate winner and veteran of near- ly 16,000 career mounts.
“I’d to take this opportunity to thank Concord/Movado and Woodbine Entertainment, plus the trainers and owners that supported me last year,” said Kabel, a lifetime winner of over 2,900 races, who enters his 22nd season in the irons.
Attard earned his first watch and his third trainer's title, after winning 73 races
at Woodbine in 2004. He also took the honours in 1982 (Autumn meet) and 1996. “I’d like to thank all my owners, my help for doing a good job, as well as my family," said Attard, who has 1,333 life- time wins since his conditioning career
began in 1977.
Sam-Son garners a second consecutive
watch, collecting total Woodbine earnings of $4,262,645 in 2004.
Samuel-Balaz was on hand to accept the award for Sam-Son Farm.
It's the sixth consecutive year the Movado Group (Concord Watches) has sponsored Woodbine's jockey, trainer and owner champions.
