Queen’s Plate Fantasy Challenge
It is not too late to be a part of Woodbine’s 6th annual Queen’s Plate Fantasy Challenge. The free on-line contest allows you to select your own fantasy stable, complete with horses, jockeys and trainers and to follow your stable on the road to this year’s Queen’s Plate.
The stables opened on April 8 and all stables must be locked in no later
than June 8, 2005. The sooner you lock in your stable the more points you are eligible to collect.
There are dozens of valuable prizes to be won and it is always lots of fun cheering on your fantasy stable.

ORC Assists in Bookmaking Shutdown
An extensive three month investigation has resulted in the shut down of an illegal bookmaking business that was operating out of a Markham. Ontario teletheatre known as Select Winners Lounge. In cooperation with its partners at the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) - Organized Crime Section, Illegal Gambling Unit, OPP officers tied to the Investigative Unit of the Ontario Racing Commission have assisted in the investigation and subsequent bookmaking related charges.
"Investigating and removing criminal elements from the horse racing industry sends an important message that we will not tolerate
activities that compromise the industry's integrity," remarked John Blakney, Executive Director of the Ontario Racing Commission. Through its Investigative Unit and using its available regulatory powers, the Commission has been concentrat- ing its resources in areas related to illegal gambling and organized crime.
Man Fai Hung, 43, of Scarborough, Ontario has been charged with Engage in Bookmaking contrary to the Criminal Code. Hung was released by York Region Police for an appearance in the Ontario Court of Justice on May 4, 2005. The investigation is continuing and further charges may be pending.
ECTA Annual Award Winners 2004
The Eastern Canadian Thoroughbred Association hosted their annual awards dinner on Saturday, March 26 and announced the following winners for 2004:
TOP RACE EARNER; The Windfields Farm Trophy
Imperial Alydeed (Alydeed - Imperial Miss). Bred by M.E. Kennedy, Imperial Alydeed was Top 2yr old earner of 2003. In 2004 he was second in the Afleet Stakes, and was third in the Woodstock Stakes, and the Bold Ruckus Stakes for total 2004 winnings of $129,201.
TOP RACE EARNER RESERVE:
Six Jiggles (Saratoga Six - Java Girl). Bred in KY and owned by Box Arrow Farm (Shirley Prosser) and trained by Gord Colbourne. Six Jiggles won $97,829 in 2004.
TOP 2 YR OLD EARNER: The Manistee Farm Trophy
Ours to Keep (Archers Bay - Built on Dreams). Bred by M. E. Kennedy and Oakhurst Farm and raced by Oakhurst Farm (Bob and Joan Allum), this filly broke her maiden in her only start at two by 15+ lengths, ran an 85 Beyer, and won $19,380.
TOP 2YR OLD RESERVE:
Jono’s Gone Fish’n (Highland Ruckus - Aunt Mollie). Bred, owned and trained by Gord Colbourne, this gelding won $4,050 in 2004.
TOP B TRACK EARNER: The Diamond Hill Trophy
Golden Nicolas (Gold Legend - Imperial Miss). Bred by M. E. Kennedy. Golden Nicolas was Top B Track Earner in 2003 and ran in 2004 at Penn National earning $32,288 US dollars.
