Groom Terry Levey Passes Away

Give Right of Way to Ambulance
Woodbine’s Ambulance Escort, Jim Stoehr, would like to remind all persons on the backstretch to give the right of way to the Ambulance when the lights are flashing.
The lights will now be flashing when the ambulance is on its way to
a serious call however the siren will not be used for the sake of the horses. All persons in vehicles as well as exercise riders on horses are asked to yield for the ambulance as it makes it’s way to or from an emergency on the backstretch.
Shortly after celebrating his 52nd birthday on April 4, long time groom Terry Levey passed away on April 16 after a battle with lung cancer.
Terry had been a groom for trainer Mike DePaulo for the past nine years and according to Josie DePaulo he didn’t have any family members that he spoke of other than a brother which he hadn’t seen since they were together in California 25 years ago.
Born in Western Canada, Terry was adopted and he and his brother left home at age fourteen and began a life of travelling from racetrack to racetrack across North America.
Most recently Terry was the groom of the Heather Landymore owned, Kissed by a Prince, and was also one of the grooms who gave his time to help the horses at Bramalea Farm in January despite having just received a chemotherapy treatment.
“Terry was very reliable and very trustworthy,” said Josie, “he was very
forward and told you what he thought but he was a good horseman and loved the horses.”
A special memorial service for Terry was held on April 22 at the Woodbine Sales Pavilion.

A Touch of Spring at Woodbine
Attention Ladies! You are invited to spend an afternoon at Woodbine Racetrack on Saturday, May 15 for an event devoted to women. It is the second annual, A Touch of Spring, ladies event which features a fabulous fashion show showcasing fashions by local designer, David Findlay, and fabulous Hats by Chelsea’s.

The event is designed to raise awareness for Breast Cancer Research and a portion of the proceeds from the event are in support of the Trillium Health Care Centre.
