David’s interest
in racing began
with his father
who was in the car
business. “Every
time we went to
car auctions we’d
always somehow
end up at the track.” explained David, “My dad likes to gamble of both standardbreds and thoroughbreds and I just enjoyed the horses themselves especially the thoroughbreds.”
September came and went and the syndicate was wavering until David met Tim Orlando at

“It was like selling air at that point,” says David who was hoping to gain enough shareholders to purchase
a yearling at the September sale in
Isvestia and With Approval are some of his favourite thoroughbreds and
the excitement of watching them race prompted him to pursue a career as a jockey. “I was 105 - 110 lbs and a little tall.” said David. After taking riding lessons at age 17 in Cambridge where he grew up, David went to work at Woodlands Farm as a stable hand and after 3 months he realized that working in the barn wasn’t for him. “At 17 you really don’t know what you want to do.”
