HOSTILE WITNESS - A witness who is subject to
cross-examination by the same party who called
him/her as a direct witness due to antagonism
demonstrated during direct examination.
HOT PURSUIT ARREST - when an offense has just
been committed and he has probable cause to
believe based on personal knowledge of facts or
circumstances that the person arrested has
committed it.
HOT SPOT – a location where various crimes are
committed on a regular basis, usually by different
offenders.
HOTEL SECURITY – a type of security applied to
hotels where its properties are protected from
pilferage, loss, damage and the function in the
hotel restaurants are not disturbed and troubled by
outsiders or the guest themselves.
HOWARD BECKER - advocated the Labeling Theory
also known as Social Reaction Theory, which is
based on the idea that a social deviant is not an
inherently deviant individual, rather they become
deviant because they are labeled as such.
HULKS – are decrepit transport, former warships

used to house prisoners in the 18 and 19

century. These were abandoned warships
converted into prisons as means of relieving
congestion of prisoners. They were also called
“floating hells”.
