Determination is very important. Winning Politics, Law & Religion
hearts and minds often takes time. I
don’t feel I’m doing my current work for
myself but paving the way for the next
generation who will benefit in the way I
benefited from the efforts made by the
generation before me.

What’s the most important proposal
you’ve been offered, but declined?
I was asked by Nick Clegg to put myself
forward to be the Lib Dem candidate for
the Mayor of London elections. I said no
because it would have affected the lives
of my children and family.

What has been your most challenging
job?
Being in the House of Lords has been
mentally the most demanding job as
there is so much to do and the workload
is relentless.

How do you deal with the stress of
work?
I like to meditate by just sitting quietly
and breathing slowly. I’m also a keen
photographer and golfer. Most of all I
adore singing, especially
with author Ken Follett’s
rock band.

What would
you like your
broadcasting
and political
legacy to be?
I helped to
change the
world in a
positive way
and made a
difference.
