Founder, Pat McGrath Labs
Pat McGrath’s creative genius led to her being hailed by
American Vogue as the most “influential make-up artist in
the world”. And this year she proved she has the business
acumen to match. Her make-up line, Pat McGrath Labs, was
valued at $1billion, surpassing the figure for selfie queen
Kylie Jenner, whose cosmetics range was estimated by
Forbes to be worth $800million.
What is even more remarkable is that Northampton-born
Pat launched her own line only three years ago.
The groundbreaking concept brand is based on the
innovative concept of “straight from the lab”, and it releases
new beauty discoveries in limited quantities. Since launch,
Pat McGrath Labs has received more than 25billion media
impressions, seen products sell out within minutes, and set
the trends for others to follow.
Setting global beauty trends season after season, Pat
designs the make-up looks for countless iconic runway
shows, breakthrough advertising campaigns, and editorial
spreads for the most prestigious fashion houses and media
outlets. She has created beauty looks for the world’s top
luxury fashion brands from Prada to Miu Miu, Gucci,
Louis Vuitton, Versace, Maison Martin Margiela and Yohji
Yamamoto, and stars from Naomi Campbell and Madonna to
Katy Perry, Oprah Winfrey, Selena Gomez and Taylor Swift.

A BA Fine Art Film graduate from Central St Martin’s –
where he achieved a first – Isaac co-founded the visionary
Sankofa Film and Video Collective, dedicated to developing
an independent black film culture. He was also a founding
member of Normal Films in 1991.
He came to prominence in 1989 with his drama
documentary Looking for Langston, a poetic exploration of
American poet-activist Langston Hughes and the Harlem
Renaissance. In 1991, his film Young Soul Rebels scooped the
critics’ prize for best film at the Cannes Film Festival and he
was nominated for the Turner Prize in 2001.
In 2017, he won the Panorama TEDDY 30 award at the
Berlinale 66th Berlin International, for Looking for Langston,
and in 2014 scooped the Golden Gate Persistence of Vision
Award at the San Francisco International Film Festival.
Other solo exhibitions in 2017 include Playtime at the
Platform-L Contemporary Art Center in Seoul and Other
Destinies at the Royal Ontario Museum in Toronto.
He is Chair of Global Art at the University of the Arts,
London, trustee of the Parasol Unit, Regents Professor of
the University of California, Berkeley and Trustee of Zeitz
MOCAA, Cape Town, South Africa.
He was previously visiting lecturer at Harvard University’s
Schools of Afro-American and Visual Environmental Studies
and Research Fellow at Goldsmiths College University.
