                 ESOSA AIBANGBEE

I joined HSBC directly through the graduate scheme
shortly after university. Since then I’ve learnt that it’s
not about knowing everything HSBC encourages
an environment of collective solutions and constant
learning. This additional support includes providing
people management, team management and lead-
ership essential courses which have allowed me to
continue honing crucial soft skills which I use daily.
One year into the scheme and I now have the confi-
dence to coach, listen and tackle challenging conver-
                 sations e ectively.
I’m now halfway through the programme and both of
my placements have given me exposure to varying
levels of seniority and put me in situations outside
my comfort zone, therefore creating the environment
for me to grow. My favourite aspects of HSBC’s cul-
ture are the opportunities to get involved with stake-
holders, both inside and outside the business, as this When faced with what can feel like constant intern-
has encouraged me to invest in myself and develop a ship or graduate scheme rejections, it’s easy to lose
growth mind-set. sight of your goal and doubt your ability. But take
If I could give myself one piece of advice, it would be each rejection as an opportunity to ask for feedback
to continue striving for what I want to achieve in life. and recalibrate.
