Happy 50 Marilyn!
th
After 50 years at Jewel-Osco Marilyn says she could write a book about some
of the more curious moments while on the clock. “One lady wanted me to
weigh empty peanut shells and give her a refund. A pregnant lady wanted
me to bag paper bags as heavy as I could because she wanted to go into
labor.”
Marilyn worked the service desk for many, many years she says but also did
the bookwork when opening and closing stores. She admits times have
changed. “We keyed in prices from stickers on the items and prices stayed
the same forever, so I knew a lot of them. I also wore a pink dress.”
She never thought she’d be at Jewel-Osco for five decades. “I've worked with
many managers and associates with many personalities. I learned how much
they can be the same at the same job and how different they can be. They
have a job to do and expect me to do mine. I always worked as efficiently as
I could for them.” Her advice for new hires? “Do your best. Always bag a
special request the way the customer asks. Be pleasant. Say hello. Say thank
Marilyn Gunther you. Be helpful.”
