A New Bookmobile for Oconee County Public Library
(Walhalla, SC) – A bookmobile is a library on wheels. The Oconee County Public
Library has had a bookmobile for the better part of its history. And this year, the
OCPL has received a brand new bookmobile; which was funded by Oconee
County, as well state aid, and unclaimed Education Lottery funds. This new Freightliner bookmobile, built by
Farber Specialty Vehicles in Columbus, Ohio, replaces a 1997 model bookmobile. The OCPL received it as
just a plain white truck, and had a graphics package designed and installed locally by Diamond-T Promo-
tions in Fair Play.
The new bookmobile has many new features that were not
available on the existing bookmobile, like a wheelchair lift for
accessibility, a flat screen TV to show a video calendar or other
special programming, more space for books and videos, and an
awning and outside electrical outlets to allow the library to have
outdoor programs away from its brick-and-mortar branches. The
bookmobile visits Fair Play on the first and third Thursdays of
each month. It stops at the Dollar General store on South High-
way 11 from 10:30 to 12:00, and at the Fair Play Presbyterian
Church on Fair Play Boulevard from 1:30 to 3:00. For more in-
formation about the bookmobile, check it out online at
