ISSUE NUMBER 166 THE TOWN CRIER APRIL 2017
SHARE Therapeutic Riding Program
SHARE Therapeutic Riding Program had a wonderful winter! We had 14 young people from Clemson Life program
coming to Scott Hills Equestrian Center each week for learning and fun! One of the most awesome things about the
whole project is the number of dedicated volunteers that are sharing themselves and making this possible. We want to
take this opportunity to feature some of their stories and introduce them to you with their words.
First, Sarah Brucke:
"My name is Sarah Brucke and I am a junior Biological Sciences major at Clemson University from Pickens, SC. I
have been riding horses since I was about 4 years old. I gained my love of horses from my mom. I first began volun-
teering with therapeutic riding and beginner lessons at Eden Farms in Dacusville, SC where I learned to ride. Then
once I began college I found out about the CLEAT therapeutic riding at the Clemson Equestrian center and began to
volunteer there. Now I currently volunteer at Scott Hills Equestrian Center with the SHARE program on Mondays and
Thursdays with the Clemson LIFE students. Being a part of these programs has helped me grow in confidence, be-
come a better leader, improved my team working skills, and taught me many life lessons. My career goal is to become
a pediatric surgeon and by working with these students I have found new ways to connect and communicate with a
variety of people and I think these skills will help me greatly in the future. I enjoy my time working with SHARE and
look forward to coming and meeting my new friends every week!"
Next, Linda Limeri :
"I grew up in Framingham MA, 20 miles west of Boston and I am currently a freshman pre-business major at Clemson
University. I intend to declare business management major with a minor in Equine Industry next semester. I began
with the SHARE program through my sorority, Kappa Alpha Theta, when someone in it mentioned that Lisa was look-
ing for help. I first met Lisa and saw Scott Hills a couple weeks before we actually met the Clemson Life program, dur-
ing a training session designed to show those of us who had never worked with horses and/or a therapeutic riding pro-
gram ―the ropes.‖ When I got there on the first day for training, and Lisa mentioned that some of the horses needed
some work, I jumped at the chance to ride. I found myself quickly falling in love with the horses and the farm, even
before we started working with the students in Clemson Life. Yet only a couple weeks later, when we did start working
to get them on, I felt as though I had a much more personal connection with the program because I had worked with
some of the horses involved, trying to get them ready. It has been so amazing not only to see the Clemson Life stu-
dents growing but also to see the horses I have worked with doing their jobs so well and being so great. I know that I
may never have a chance like this one, and I am trying to make the most of it while I can. I am generally at Scott Hills
five days each week to ride, and once per week to work with the students. My dream is to train horses and their chil-
dren, and by doing what I am with the SHARE program, I feel like I am taking a step towards making that dream real."
SHARE appreciates our volunteers! Without them, we could never be able to do what we do. More of them will be fea-
tured in future articles, and we encourage anyone who might be able to help us to contact Lisa Hartman, Director, at
910-538-5575. No experience is required. When you share yourself, your benefit, too!
