My BIG Moment of CHANGE!!
It was at this point that I remember walking up a slight hill at the age of 28, with a toolbox and feeling soooo tired and out of energy. Like I had lead in my legs. And somehow I got a cassette tape called “Fit For Life” that I played in my car on the way to my new business.
It talked about trying this really weird (to my then current knowledge) way of eating for 10 days. It promised that I would feel the difference in that time and then I could make my assessment as to whether to take more advice from them and continue this strange way of eating and food journey. I decided to try it.
My “Fit For Life 10 Day Health Challenge”
Basically, the book and tape talked about how different foods can affect our energy and how healthy we are and feel, and that the body goes through cycles and we should eat according to these cycles.
The basic rules for this were these . . . I only ate fruit only until 12 noon. After 12 when I ate, I did not combine any starches and proteins from 12-8 pm. If I ate proteins like meat, chicken or cheese for example, it was ONLY with steamed vegetables or salad. Or if I had starches like pasta or chips or bread, I would not eat this with meat, cheese or other proteins but only vegetables or salads.
This was because meat and other protein foods need acid to break them down in our stomachs. And starchy foods like potatoes, bread and pasta need alkaline digestive juices to digest it. So if you eat both at the same time these acid and alkaline digestive juices neutralize each other and the food just sits there for hours on end rotting away in your stomach.
