My Own Injury Case Study:
As I was writing this section I had an opportunity to experience physical trauma and injury first hand.
On my morning walk and swim I entered the water in my usual way . . . by doing a SOMERSAULT. Yes, I know, it’s probably NOT the best idea for a 60 year old . . . however I have been entering the ocean this way for many years now and don’t intend to grow old anytime soon.
Any this somersault did not go so well. I slipped on the sand and landed square on my head. I jarred my neck and spine really badly.
In fact I almost passed out and had trouble even walking the 50 metres to my bike. Had to stop every 10 metres and rest. Now I am lying in bed in agony.
Now most people would run to the doctor. Get X-rays and pain killers. But I know better. I know that I am NOT paralyzed. That WAS lucky, because quite a few people get paralyzed from this type of accident in the surf. I also know that the body will heal itself. The thing to remember, is that NO pain lasts forever, especially if you eliminate the causes of the pain and give the body the chance to heal itself.
So I just rested for 2-3 days just drank water and freshly squeezed juices and avoided sudden movements of my body and head. 10 days later I am ALMOST back to normal. No drugs, no doctors NO treatments. Just rest water, juice and let the body heal itself.
I could hardly move my neck for 3 days after landing on my head doing a somersault. At 60 years of age some say I should know better. I say, I do know that I’d rather live life than be dead by 30 through bad habits, thoughts and foods that most people eat.
