The gate swung open and we entered on a gravel drive, completely unprepared
for the sense of wonderment that overcame us. Moments before we had been
in the bustling, noisy city and instantaneously we were in the most serene setting
imaginable. On our right were lush and verdant gardens extending on terraced
slopes and trails all the way to the bayou. On our left lay a grassy park, its trees
reaching up to the sky, encircled by a vast driveway, unexpectedly punctuated by
a massive sculptured fountain. And then, there it was, the house itself: a true
masterpiece of contemporary design, so sleek and elegant, it only hinted at the
wonderful surprises we would find inside.
