Aruba Resort advances
In 2019 World Travel & Tourism Council Awards
EAGLE BEACH — The World Travel
& Tourism Council announced the
shortlist of finalists in the world who
are up for receiving its 2019 Tourism
for Tomorrow – Climate Action Award.
Bucuti & Tara Beach Resort is thrilled
to be one of the three organizations.
An evaluator will soon be visiting the
Aruba resort for the last component
of judging before the global award is
announced in early April in Spain.
Bucuti & Tara is one of only three
contenders worldwide for the Cli-
mate Action award category. This
WTTC Tourism for Tomorrow category
recognizes organizations undertak-
ing significant and measurable work
to reduce the scale and impact of
climate change. In August 2018, the
Eagle Beach property became the
Caribbean’s first certified carbon
neutral resort. The pinnacle achieve-
ment came after years of steady,
conscientious sustainability initiatives
leading it to become the Caribbe-
an’s most eco-certified resort.
According to the WTTC website, it’s
Tourism for Tomorrow Awards are the
world’s top accolade in sustainable
tourism. They recognize the highest
ethical standards in the major tour-
ism sector, and are respected by in-
dustry leaders, governments and in-
ternational media, alike. The Awards
recognize best practices in sustain-
able tourism within the industry glob-
ally, based upon the principles of
environmentally friendly operations;
support for the protection of cultur-
al and natural heritage; and direct
benefits to the social and economic
well-being of local people in travel
destinations around the world.
Next, a WTTC judge will visit Bucuti &
Tara to perform an in-depth evalua-
tion. The winners will be announced
April 2-4, 2019 at the WTTC Global
Summit in Seville, Spain.
“Our Bucuti associates, our guests,
vendors and community have joined
our commitment in taking action
against climate change and we

Beach Resort proceed to the finalists’
round of the World Travel & Tourism
Council’s 2019 Tourism for Tomorrow
Awards,” says Ewald Biemans, own-
