When strangers become friends
ORANJESTAD — Aruba Today would like to share
with you a story send to us by Lucia Brienza, a
loyal visitor of our island and her group of 36
friends that have been coming to our Aruba for
a long time.
It all started 28 years ago at a low rise hotel.
Strangers with something in common. They are
all in the lawn Sprinkler business, but it’s every-
thing but business when they are here.
The group moved from the low rise hotel to Alle-
gro Hotel and settled there for a few years. When
Marriott Surf Club started with the groundbreak-
ing of their hotel the majority of the group de-
cided to buy a share at the Marriott Surf Club.
Things truly changed during these past 28 years,
some came along and sadly they have also lost
a few due to illness. One of their friends passed
away and his wife actually brought his ashes with
her. They enjoy doing lots of activities together
such as golf, diving, karaoke and so much more.
When the sun goes down everyone goes in dif-
ferent directions trying new places or just relax
at their favorite place. You will certainly find Lu-
cia and her husband grilling, frying and searing
some fresh fish that they buy down by the docks.
The ladies got new floats this year and they are
looking forward to the wonderful massages and
the experience of the beautiful sunset cruise. It
doesn’t take much to keep them happy, the ca-
sino, music, good food and the friendly people
of Aruba is all it takes.
The island has gone through major changes
throughout these 28 years but for them Aruba
has it all and there is no better place to cele-
brate life than this beautiful island their proudly
call their home. The love and respect they all
have towards each other is what makes them
more like family.
Thank you Lucia Brienza for sharing your story
with us and showing off your love for our island.q
