Inner Cheerleader (4+)
Time: 2-5minutes
Purpose: This activity helps your child learn how to develop more empowering self-talk. This also helps develop inner celebration (see more on this later on in the skills).
Instructions: Help your child learn how to encourage themselves and cheer for themselves on a regular basis. Help your child come up with statements they can say to themself to help shape their self- talk in a more empowering way. Also, ask your child to draw a picture of what their inner cheerleader looks like. If needed, help them search and print out an image from the internet. Give their inner cheerleader a name so you can identify when they are around.J
Helpful vs. Unhelpful (5+)
Time: 2-5minutes
Purpose: This activity can help your child learn the difference between helpful and unhelpful self-talk.
Instructions: This activity can be formal or informal.
Formal: Write out helpful and unhelpful statements on notecards. Read the cards and have your child identify whether the statement is helpful or unhelpful. Create new cards as your child gets older. Informal: When your child uses helpful self-talk point it out and praise them for it! When they
use unhelpful self-talk identify it and help them come up with something more helpful. You can also do this when reading books, watching shows or movies.
