4 Head & Heart
Activities targeted to help your child develop assertive communication.
Ask Questions/Ask For Help (all ages) Time: 1-2minutes
Purpose: To develop assertive communication.
Instructions: Encourage your child to ask you questions, and encourage them when they do. This helps them learn that it is all right to not know the answer, and it is good to ask for help when you need it. Teach them how to make eye contact, how to speak up, and to use their manners.
Introduce Yourself (2+)
Time: 1-2minutes
Purpose: To develop assertive communication.
Instructions: It is just as it sounds. Have your child practice introducing themselves to people. Teach them how to make eye contact, how to speak up and to use their manners. You can practice this at home in role-play as well.
Take Turns (2+)
Time: 1-2minutes
Purpose: To develop assertive communication.
Instructions: Have your child practice requesting to take turns with toys/items. Teach them how to make eye contact, how to speak up with their request and to use their manners. You can practice this at home and outside of the house with family and friends.
