Blame Game (5+)
Time: 2-3minutes
Purpose: To model how to take responsibility for your actions and how to repair relationships.
Instructions: This is actually the opposite of how it soundsJ. If your child is blaming others for their actions, redirect them. Teach them to take responsibility for their actions. In doing so you are also empowering them to focus on that which they can control. Teach them that they cannot control anyone’s actions but their own.
Create Goals (5+)
Time: 5-10minutesbutongoing
Purpose: To model how to take responsibility for your actions and how to work towards a goal.
Instructions: Create goals for your child to work towards. Help your child understand what needs to be done in order to reach those goals. Encourage and support them while they are working towards their goals. Follow up daily and help them understand how their actions are directly related to whether or not they are able to complete the goal. When they stumble, help them take responsibility for their actions and explore how to move forward.
Care to Repair Steps (6+)
Time: 2-3minutes
Purpose: To model how to take responsibility for your actions and how to repair relationships.
Instructions: Practice the steps of care to repair: 1) Say you are sorry. 2) Take responsibility for your hurtful words or actions. 3) State what you are willing to do to move forward.
Talk about forgiveness with your child.
Model how to take responsibility for your own actions.
