7 Inner Celebration
Activities targeted to help your child develop internal validation and inner pride.
Share Pride (all ages) Time: 2-3minutes
Purpose: To help your child learn how to feel proud of their accomplishments and develop inner pride.
Instructions: Talk about times you have felt proud of your child. Share times you have felt proud of yourself. Ask your child about a time they felt proud of themself (big or small). Explore the difference between bragging and feeling proud.
Little Helper (all ages) Time: 2-10minutes
Purpose: To help your child learn how to feel capable and proud of themselves. Ultimately, we want children to learn to feel proud of their accomplishments and develop inner pride.
Instructions: Have your child be your helper around the house throughout the day. Praise them for being helpful and for their effort (don’t just focus on the outcome). Point out their strengths and ask them if they recognize those strengths as well. Ask them if they are proud of themself.
Independence (all ages) Time: Variable
Purpose: To help your child learn how to recognize their efforts and celebrate their own actions. Ultimately, we want children to learn to feel proud of their accomplishments and develop inner pride.
Instructions: Don’t do anything for your child that they can do for themselves. Let them try things and try, try again. Praise them for their effort (don’t just focus on the outcome, we want them to also enjoy the process). When they master different skills, they learn that they are capable and they feel empowered. Encourage your child to try new things to keep working towards independence. Lastly, let them know it is alright to fail, just try again!
