8 Gratitude Attitude
Activities targeted to help your child develop gratitude.
Say Thank You (all ages) Time: 1-2minutes
Purpose: To help your child learn how to develop and receive gratitude.
Instructions: Tell your child “thank you” for their choices, actions and good attitudes. Do this authentically and often. As time progresses you’ll start to hear them express their gratitude to you.
Helpful Heart (all ages) Time: 1-2minutes
Purpose: To help your child learn how to develop and express gratitude. When we help others, we feel good and work to develop both gratitude and empathy.
Instructions: Have your child help someone outside of your house: e.g. hold the door, pick up garbage, pick up something someone dropped. Have your child do something nice for someone else around the house. Have that person express gratitude so that your child can also learn how to receive gratitude. Volunteer your time as a family.
Nightly Gratitude (all ages) Time: 2-5minutes
Purpose: To help your child learn how to develop and express gratitude.
Instructions: Have your child say something they are grateful for every night before bed. You do the same.
Teach your child how to say “Thank you” to others.
Express your gratitude to others on a daily basis. Model this for your child. Focus on what you have, not what you don’t have, and make a habit of this.
