Celebration Chain (4+)
Time: 1-2minutesbutongoing
Purpose: To help your child learn how to recognize their efforts and celebrate their own actions. Ultimately, we want children to learn to feel proud of their accomplishments and develop inner pride.
Instructions: Have strips of paper and pens/markers. Each time a family member does something kind to someone else they write it down. Once written, tape the ends together to form a link of a chain. Try this for a week and see how long it gets. Make a new one for the following week and see if you can make it longer than the first one.
Compliment Jar (5+)
Time: 1-2minutes,butongoing
Purpose: To help your child learn how to recognize other’s efforts and provide positive feedback. The ability to recognize and offer praise to others increases our ability to do so for ourselves. Ultimately, we want children to learn to feel proud of their accomplishments and develop inner pride.
Instructions: Create a compliment jar and ask your child to contribute to it throughout the week. If they cannot write, have them ask you for help (assertive skillsJ). At the end of the week read the entries. Have your child pay attention to what it feels like to receive and accept compliments.
You do not need to do a jar, feel free to do this verbally from time to time.
