CREATIVE INDUSTRIES REPORTS
In this section, we visit a major resource in measuring and mapping of Creative Industries.
First we present the general report resources. These are applicable to the entire nation and can be drilled-down to view study areas of particular interest to the reader.
Second, for the purposes of the particular Tool Kit, we will look at the KC Metro statistics. This allows us to have objective reference points for economic information in a special setting.
DEFINING CREATIVE INDUSTRY
Creative Industry is defined as a business involved in the production or distribution of the arts. (https://www. americansforthearts.org/by-program/reports-and-data/research-studies-publications/creative-industries/ faq#t961n27790)
A Creative Industries report maps locations of nonprofit and for-profit arts-related businesses. in any political jurisdiction (e.g., city, county, state, legislative district). Creative Industries studies encompass both the nonprofit and for-profit arts industries, unlike Arts and Economic Prosperity studies only look at non-profits.
The Creative Industries: Business & Employment in the Arts reports use Dun & Bradstreet’s national business information database, a research-based approach to understanding the scope and importance of the arts to the nation’s economy. D&B assigns an 8-digit Standard Industrial Classification (SIC) code to identify the industry and sub-category, for example:
