Awaken The Mind
At the railway station, I made a young friend
While waiting for the train, he served me hot samosas
A bright cheerful fellow, he was a smart boy
We began talking, this is what he shared
“Black strokes are blank symbols to me all the same
My unlettered state makes the world a jigsaw puzzle
I wonder what makes the sun so fierce, how the stars shine
A mystery how my body works, my heart quickly beats
What’s the science that makes things tick?
A way to find the real cost, who takes away the profit
When can I understand big numbers, art and history?
Too many hurdles to study, to read write or play sports
I wish to be learned, discover new worlds, travel the globe
Get a prosperous home, beyond just daily bread and clothes on my back
My dream is to strengthen my hands, improve my skills Ann. Vidya Sarayan
Cast away my ignorance and be a better man”
His words jolted my thinking, what a stark contrast to the world I live in!
Where a child's daily route leads to learning and not worry about a living!
Moved by his enthusiasm, I made a solemn vow
To enable his education, supported by kind people I know
In a trice, I talked to some generous souls and narrated the boy's plight
At once, they agreed to help and we set the ball rolling!
Overjoyed, he promised his best and start off without further ado
I boarded the train envisioning that this boy goes to school, the first of his
goals.
DREAMS
Cupcakes and rainbows drizzled with fun,
There are so many flavours,
I can't think of one...
All of this sugar makes me want to jump
Bouncing and bouncing on fluffy clouds that shimmer
The thought of me falling down,
Gives me the shivers
Now I want to fly
And see the world from the eyes of a bird Annette Isha
Sadly, I have to leave
Since all of that was just a dream
