Food Culture at La Lomita Ranch
For Genine, the food customs at La Lomita were decidedly foreign! Specifically:
Adopt food culture
▪ Marieta and Pedro went out of their way to shop for pure, wholesome foods, exploring the first
farmers markets on the Central Coast, Trader Joe’s in Santa Barbara, aged meats incl. organ meats
at Safeway’s (now Vons). “Clean up” and
▪ Marieta was looking to “buy vegetables that still had the earth on them.”
▪ Cheeses were considered “dessert” develop hand-crafted
▪ Meals were always cooked and consumed on properly set tables with table cloths
▪ Lunches included Martinis and were from noon to 3 pm LLR breakfasts:
▪ Like in Spain, please took a long lunch and were expected to work late into the evenings
