CURRENT WORK & LEGACY
Today Boom is nothing short of a Book legend. A textile line by Knoll was inspired by her books on color. She has designed a certain in the United Nations building in New York. Boom was appointed to the Yale School of Art faculty in 1992 where she is now a senior critic in graphic design. The Irma Boom archive is managed by the university of Amsterdam and the Museum of Modern Art in New York has her work in a permanent collection in the Design and Architecture Department. In many interviews Boom is asked if the book is dead. Her response
is a fervent no, it is more alive than
ever.
Technology surrounds us all
of the time. Things are constantly edited, changed and updated. A book captures a moment. It freezes time and information. The Images captured is a reference of time and place. Because the book is bound
it is unchangeable which is good and allows for reflection. I think something we as designers can take away from Irma boom’s method is to stick to what you know will look good and stick up for yourself and your design.
Irma Boom,
Books Front & Back.
