The frame of the winch or tether reel will hold the slip ring housing with its stationary contacts (Figure 7.8), while the rotary joint, with its complementary contacts, rotates with the drum.
7.1.4.2 Fiber-optic rotary joints
The function of the fiber-optic rotary joint (FORJ) is to provide an uninterrupted passive union between a stationary and a rotary fiber (typically for optical transfer from a stationary frame to a rotary winch).
