Field installable termination assembly
Unlike other termination assemblies, the field installable termination assembly (FITA) (Figure 8.20) can be assembled on site without the need for molding. The system joins two multi- conductor cables in a pressure-compensated oil-filled environment. FITA terminations can be per- formed by trained operators on board, making it possible to repair broken cables without lengthy down time from sending the materials back for onshore repair.
