a group of 35 of us, Pastors and Ministers, to go
City Hall to talk with the Mayor about the lack of
inclusion of African-Americans in his cabinet. We
went, and he refused to see us. Before leaving I
told the group that it is obvious that we are still not
respected. So, let’s come back tomorrow morning
and let’s pray and ask God what can we do dif-
ferently to gain more respect. That following
morning was the coldest morning ever recorded in
NYC for that exact time in February. Unfortunate-
ly, no minister showed up but me.
In closing, how is the Black Church going to know
what works are the right works if it does not ask
God? We are too busy in the Church doing this and
doing that we have forgotten what Jesus’ said about
prayer being the most important activity in the
Church.
Jesus said, “Is it not written, My Father’s house
shall be called of all nations a house of prayer?”
Though the Black Church is dead because it is
producing dead works, Resurrection is possible
through prayer.
We must start to pray like our slave ancestors who
did more praying than anything else in abolishing
