When I was thirteen, I met my children's father. We had a very rocky relationship, but we stayed together. When I was 19, I got pregnant with my daughter and that is when he started to hit me. Things progressed for the next two years to where he verbally, emotionally and physically abused me often. I broke up with him when our son was 4 months old, I was 21. He wouldn't move out of the house and I had nowhere to go, so we were still living together. One night he came home drunk and beat me, choked me and stabbed me in the leg, all in front of my son. I managed to get away and called the police and he was arrested. Since then, which was June of last year, I have moved from place to place with my two children, with no where to really call home. I went to the Leominster Housing Authority looking to apply for housing and they told me about Sylvia's Haven. I called and was told to meet with Sylvia and she gave me the greatest gift I could have asked for, a chance to have a stable home for my children and an opportunity to rebuild my life and go down the right path in life. I was so happy when I went back to where I was staying then, that I cried. Thank God for people like Sylvia who have given people like me, who have nowhere to turn and feel completely helpless, a second chance. 781-284-0560 www.sylviashaven.org
