PART ONE: ABOUT FOX RESTAURANT CONCEPTS
Introduction
At Fox Restaurant Concepts (FRC) every new hire orientation is important to us . Our goal is for an employee’s
first day to be well-planned and memorable, leaving them with a great impression from the start . Before you can
conduct a successful orientation, you’ll need to become familiar with the content we want to share with new hires .
This tool kit will provide you with context about the company, set up basic orientation guidelines, and give you all
of the information you need to become an orientation expert .
Our Story
The story of FRC begins with Sam Fox . Sam grew up immersed in the restaurant world . When he was young, the
school bus would drop him off outside his parents’ restaurant – The Hungry Fox – where he spent his evenings
bussing tables, chatting with guests, and finishing his homework in a booth . As he grew older, he gradually worked
every position in the restaurant, which gave him a holistic understanding of the business .
Sam went on to attend college at the University of Arizona, where he opted to study real estate finance . After his
sophomore year – and a particularly bad internship experience – he decided to drop out of college and start a
restaurant with his tuition money . When he started, he was convinced that he knew everything there was to know .
It wasn’t long before he discovered that running a restaurant is more than just what happens in the kitchen and
dining room . For years, he persevered to keep his fledgling restaurant afloat, ultimately managing to turn it around
and sell it at a profit .
In 1998, Sam opened the first FRC restaurant, Wildflower, in Tucson, where it remains a local treasure to this day .
Wildflower’s success kick-started the company’s growth, resulting in the development and expansion of new brands
in the Tucson, and Phoenix metro areas; North, Blanco, Flower Child, True Food Kitchen, Culinary Dropout, The
Arrogant Butcher, and The Henry, to name a few . FRC brands gained more and more momentum, expanding to
California, Colorado, Florida, Georgia, Illinois, Kansas, Maryland, Nevada, Pennsylvania, Texas and Virginia .
The appetite for Fox restaurants shows no sign of slowing, and the company plans to meet that demand with further
growth plans throughout the U .S .
