P. 2
Health and welfare
This allows you to name attorneys who can decide things like:
• how you get help with day-to-day actions like washing, dressing and eating;
• what medical care you might need; and
• whether you need to move into a care home and which care home to choose.
This power can only be used if you’ve become unable to make decisions yourself.
Property and financial affairs
This allows you to name attorneys who can make decisions about money and property
for you. This could include:
• managing bank and building society accounts;
• collecting pensions and benefits;
• paying bills and tax; and
• selling your home.
You can restrict this power of attorney so it can only be used if you become incapable of
making decisions yourself, or set it up so that it can be used any time you give permission
– for example, if you go abroad and need someone to deal with your affairs in the UK.
