Choosing an attorney

                               You should choose someone you trust to make decisions in your best interests. It could be your
                               partner or spouse, a family member or friend. Or, you could choose a professional such as a solicitor.
                               You may have to pay a professional attorney.
                               You can choose more than one attorney. If you do this you’ll have to specify whether:

                               •  each one can make decisions on their own;
                               • they must all agree before making a decision; or

                               • they can make some decisions together and others separately.

                         How to apply for and register a power of attorney

                               You can apply for your power of attorney online, or download forms to fill in, at the Office of the Public
                               Guardian. Once you’ve filled in your forms you need to register your power of attorney with the Office of
                               the Public Guardian. This costs £82 for each lasting power of attorney you register.
