Coastal Islands, Georgia
A trip to the Coastal Islands of Georgia presents students with a study of Georgia's
vast and diverse ecological systems, as well as the history of Georgia. Your group
may choose to travel to Cumberland Island, where a guide will take your students
to various points of interest including the old Dungeness ruins, salt marshes, beach
and coast line or the maritime forest. The focus of this diverse ecological system
will be predicated on your predetermined set of interests and learning objectives.
Students can take a ecological boat tour through Jekyll Islands estuaries, and will
study the rehabilitation of Georgia's sea turtle population at Jekyll Island's Sea
Turtle Rehabilitation Hospital. You can travel to St. Simon's Island and discover the
history of an actual, working lighthouse and the role they have played throughout
American history. You may choose to add an additional educational program at the
Okefenokee Swamp, Tybee Island Marine Science Center, Oatland Island
Educational Center, or Skidaway Marine Science Center.
