Written activity to accompany reading:

• Write a 750 word book report explaining how our social and economic circumstances
does or does not influence our futures. This will be discussed in class. Be prepared to
defend your thinking.

12th Grade
Required Reading: Fish and Grits by Tina Smith-Brown

Written activity to accompany reading:
• Choose (1) of these two assignments. Write a 1000 word essay either on the
relationship between children and abusive parents using the characters in the novel, or
on the subject of how foster parenting influences the future of children using the
character of Aunt Charlie as an example. This will be discussed in class. Be prepared to
defend your thinking.
