interested. We dedicate the first half of the session to our
adventure play as this allows the children to let off all their excess
energy by using our amazing equipment that’s set up differently
each week. We could have ball ponds, bouncy castles, soft play or
little bikes! Once they’ve had a chance to explore and challenge
themselves, we all come together for our weekly activities. We
put on the ‘tidy up song’ so they all know it’s time to stop playing
and come and sit down for our activities. We then always start
with our ‘how do you do?’ song which is where we tap our
rhythm sticks together and shake hands with our every special
friend Tod, who comes on all our adventures with us. We always
start with these songs, so it creates a sense of routine and structure that our little ones love! Then
we move onto our themed activities for the week. These could be anything from dancing and
shaking our pom poms, to pretending to be a dragon or saving our teddies from a fire! We may need
to work as a team in parachute activities or develop our concentration and storytelling skills while
enjoying a puppet show! The activities are different each week, focusing on developing some
fundamental skills and getting them ready for school! We end with the same song as well so they all
know the session is coming to an end and that it’s time to say goodbye to everyone with our
‘goodbye song’.
The dreaded Covid-19 Virus!
I only started running classes in January, and the turn out and support has been amazing! We run in
3 lovely venues across 3 days and I was really getting into the swing of things and nearing the end of
my very first term of Toddler Sense when the devastating Covid-19 virus caused us to close our
classes. I knew the first year of business was going to be tough, but never had I imagined that I’d
now have to figure out how to deal with and survive this unprecedented time! This is when I was
most thankful to be part of a Franchise. Our head office quickly worked with us to develop our
online classes that are now up and running. It was a very nerve wracking and uncertain couple of
weeks while I started to adapt what I had just become comfortable with to online versions of the
class! We had many a late-night Zoom meetings between different franchises in my region to test
the system and practice how activities would now work with
everyone in their own homes. All this along with trying to make a
makeshift class environment in my living room and creating a space
for my partner to also work at home. He’s luckily been very patient
with the living room being filled with balloons and parachutes and
last week I had to black out the windows for a light activity! Now 3
weeks in, it’s still a challenge each week, but it’s becoming a bit
more comfortable for both me and the families, I hope! The support
and feedback have been wonderful and has spurred me on when at
times I thought this was bonkers! It’s been a crazy time all round,
and I’m so incredibly proud of everyone who have had their lives
