thinking of the model’s characters, their costumes, hairpieces, and shoes that I had designed for them as well as the models themselves. I created detailed face charts for each model so on the day of the shoot Kristen and I could just refer to those and get to work. The character I built for each model is as follows:
Demi: The leader of the group, keeps them all in line and dictates the day’s activities. A true queen who rules with a keen eye.
Kayla: Sweet but full of fashion and spice! Soft with a splash of sass.
Amber: Elegant and regal. Striking yet still approachable. Caterina: Spunky and full of energy, the rebel of the group that will take on any challenge. Bold, free, and full of drama.
Riley: Dainty, kind and full of giggles. Dreamy and doll- like.
Parker: While he may “belong” to Riley, all the girls keep him around to tend to their whims while being dashing arm candy.
Now... what are we missing... we need cakes! That brings in our adorable trio of Smith girls: Corey, Ainslee, and baking phenom Dani. These three focused on details and research to truly capture the authentic essence of the time, while ensuring the cakes and sweets tasted amazing as well. How lucky are we?
The day of the shoot Neil, Anderson, and Parker (my lovely husband and two sons/model) along with Amee went down to the park. They were tasked with
unloading and setting the scenes we had discussed the night before. While they were doing that, the rest of us met at my house and began creating... hair, wigs, stitching, and hemming as models began to get dressed, making their characters come to life and shuffling them over to the park.
After getting us all over to the park, it was clear, this team can literally take their piece of the pie and run with it. Everything began to meld perfectly together while the narrative started taking shape. I was unable to hide my excitement while watching all the pieces flow and build as the day progressed.
My reflection on this project is simple:
If you have a vision, surround yourself with people willing to help you with that dream.
This day may have been produced and directed by me, but it was a team of people that made it come together. I love this tribe I get to call friends; the models, the Synergy team, and of course my husband and sons. I cannot thank them all enough.
I truly hope you enjoy the story and images created. Now sit back and enjoy the Revisiting of Rococo...with all its cakes, croquet, corsets, and more.
