3. Early Defibrillation
When a casualty suffers a cardiac arrest the heart often goes into abnormal erratic electrical rhythms called VF or VT. This is
followed by the complete shutdown of the electrical system of the heart (called Asystole). Defibrillation is the only way to restore the normal electrical rhythm in a casualty who is in cardiac arrest. The sooner the casualty is defibrillated the better the chance of restoring normal cardiac rhythm and subsequently the
better the chance of survival for the casualty.
4. Early Advanced Care
Advanced care, after using the AED, is given to the patient by paramedics and other highly trained medical
personnel on scene when they arrive, when the casualty is being transported to the hospital and when the casualty arrives at hospital
