If the casualty is not breathing, or not breathing normally, commence CPR immediately starting with compressions.
*When checking for effective breathing, persist no longer than a period of 10 seconds. If after 10 seconds you cannot ascertain whether the casualty is breathing consider them as a non- breathing casualty and commence CPR immediately.
If at this point
you find that the
casualty is
breathing place
the casualty into
the recovery
position to
maintain an open airway.
Then....
1. Maintain the casualty’s body temperature
2. Check for other injuries and treat by priority
3. Monitor their vital signs
4. Make sure you have called for medical assistance
