and the Rescuer does not want to deliver Rescue Breaths, Compression Only CPR should be delivered to the casualty until a mask or shield becomes available.
Mouth to Nose
Mouth to Nose CPR is a technique similar to Mouth to Mouth however the rescuer will seal the mouth and deliver ventilation to the casualty via the casualty’s nose.
The mouth to nose method may be used:
• where the rescuer chooses to do so
• where the person’s jaws are tightly clenched
• when resuscitating infants and small children.
If the diaphragm does not move:
• Check for an obstruction
• Check for an ineffective seal
• Ensure a sufficient volume of air has been delivered.
In mouth-to-nose resuscitation a leak may occur if the rescuer’s mouth is not open sufficiently, or if the person’s mouth is not sealed adequately. If this problem persists, use mouth-to-mouth resuscitation.
