The steps for the lateral tilt position are as follows:
1. Kneel beside the patient so that you are on the opposite side to which you intend to roll the casualty. * (*Remember to roll obviously pregnant women to onto their left hand side).
2. Remove any glasses that the casualty may be wearing and place the patients arm that is furthest from you out at a 45 degree upwards angle to the body
3. Bend the patients nearest arm at the elbow and place across the chest with fingers up on the furthest shoulder
4. Bend the nearest leg up at right angles to the body
5. Roll the patient onto their side away from you. Ensure that the patients bent leg rests on the ground at a right angle, with the other leg straight
6. Check the airway for any foreign materials or obstructions prior to gently opening the airway by tilting the head back, with the face sloping downwards to allow fluid to drain from the mouth.
