After resuscitating a casualty the Vital Signs should be closely monitored to pickup any decline in condition or consciousness.
Observations for Vital Signs include:
Pulse Rate
The pulse rate is the amount of times the heart beats over a given period of time. Usually a period of one minute E.g.. the casualty’s pulse rate was 75 beats per minute.
Normal Pulse rates
Adult
60-80 beats per minute
Child
80-00 beats per minute
Infant
100-160 beats per minute
Newborn
120-160 beats per minute
Respiratory Rate (Breathing Rate)
This includes regularity, depth and sounds associated with breathing (e.g. wheezing)
Normal Respiratory rates
Adult
16-20 breaths per minute
Child (6-12 years old)
16-25 breaths per minute
Child (1-5 years old)
25-30 breaths per minute
Infants
25-40 breaths per minute
