life? Well, that was absolutely Rob as he discovered one of his associates was stealing from him. The manager put his own skillsets into use and discovered not only who the thief was but how he was pulling it off and thus provided his evidence to the authorities. The detective that showed up was impressed and suggested Mr. Grif- fin try out a different profession. He tested for the police department and passed landing as applicant #850. He waited with humble expectations and more so thinking along the lines that he would never get the call because only 24 slots were open. Wrong! As a go getter street cop for 3 years, another conversation came about that suggested he test for detective. “I’ve read your reports, you are really good. Very thorough and you will make a good detective.” So, he tested. Another extended process but he ended up coming in #1 on this list and started as a property crimes detective. He was assigned even the most difficult task until the tables turned again and he was asked to be an undercover detective; his name was put in the bucket and of course, he gave it all he had. I could hear in his voice as he described the excitement but the hesitance because we have all watched our fair share of crime and detective shows but to hear someone who experienced this first hand was a slight rush for me as well. Robert detailed how he received a fake identi- ty and that a whole other Rob is probably being talked about and he is entirely fake. He worked Vice operations and set up stings for pimps, prostitutes and drug deal- ers. Not your average drug dealers; he dealt with groups in sophisticated organized crime rings and a few dances with the fraud ring of the Armenian Mafia. (!!!) During this time, Rob was introduced to brokering utilities such as high-speed internet, telecom and natural gas.

Things got intense and he had to decide on if it was worth the high risk for his family. If that isn’t too big of a bite of reality, he was no- ticed in Lowe’s by an Arian brotherhood member and the face off nearly resulted in a shootout. Talk about high rating stories for someone who is so laid back and easy to talk to! Right before his departure from the force, two of his good friends were killed by an antigov- ernment fanatic. They were shot in the head in a public venue and his wife was at her wits end. “I would rather be poor than be a widow.” The decision was made, and a change of scenery was required based on the life he was going to leave behind.
