me a dedicated DA role and doubled my pay, so I left the regular job scene. They saw how consistent I was and wanted me on more.
Did you have to call out for work often? Coming into season two and the timing to leave my job worked out perfect. During season one I worked at a chemical plant and could work my schedule there around when I was needed on set. If I had to be on set at 7 am I would go to work at 2 am, finish my duties and go straight to set and be there for 14 hours. I didn’t mind it and it is something I would do again. From there I did projects in between. UPS wanted me to work full time at the same time the QOTS casting director wanted me to come back for a full role. I was so happy because they treat you like a criminal at UPS and it was ridiculous. I needed the extra money because acting tends to pick up and then slow down and pick up again. It was when it was slow, and that was a cra- zy time for me in general, so I worked there. I was hoping to get back on set and when the casting director emailed me personally saying I was consistent and dependable, they gave me more camera time. I was committed to do- ing the little things that other people won’t do.
Gurie: The first year was a journey. I didn’t know anyone, and I had no connections. The music industry was com- pletely different; everyone hates you in the music world until you do something. I didn’t get that in the acting world. I would literally do my research on who was con- sistent in the filming world and then show up to red carpet events I was not invited to, just to talk for a few minutes with the one person I came for. I would talk with them, get a card, take a picture and tag them on Facebook so they couldn’t forget me, then leave. I wouldn’t even know what movie was showing I would just show up. It worked because by the end of the year I was on the big screen before a full year from when I started had even passed. I love the whole movie scene, the production of the final product and the red-carpet appearances. I had so many people telling me I wouldn’t see any of that, so I made up my mind and I did it. Right before my birthday, there was a premiere with me in it at the Texas Theatre. I remember being cast for Queen of the South and thinking it would be on Telemundo because Dallas had never seen a pro- duction of this level. I was surprised when I got there, and everyone was speaking English. Now it’s a big production. He kept his end goal in mind and pushed through it until
Desire and discipline is a beautiful combination. A lot of people get caught up in the conversation of it but when it comes down to the blood sweat and tears, they are not really about that life!
he saw his visualized end results.
