Concept of health and disease
Disease and injury prevention and control
Prevention
• Includes individual, clinical, or personal health services such as
immunizations, screening for high blood pressure and follow-up
services, or the use of Pap smears to detect the precursors cervix
cancer.
Protection
• Includes the activities of organizations, both public and private, to
reduce exposure to hazards such as polluted water, contaminated
food, traffic accidents, mosquitoes, or use of electric saws without
safety devices
Control:
The control aimed at reducing:
1. The incidence of disease
2. The duration of disease and the risk of transmission
3. The effects of infection, including both the physical and
psychosocial complication
4. The financial burden to the community
Spectrum of health:
• Health is a relativelyىبسن, not an absolute concept-always involves
many levels or degrees
Health and disease lie a long continuum fig (1) and there is
