MALFUNKTION

                   REVIEW: BEN ZANDER

Malfunktion has produced several unique singles that have earned critical acclaim over the past year,
and I was curious to gain some insight into what he’s currently working on. “I’ve got an album I’m
working on right now. It’s a little bit of everything I’ve been working towards. [It’s] me developing my
sound a lot more so you’ll really hear what Malfunktion’s gonna be all about in this coming album.”

Naturally, since he brought up the album, I wanted to hear more about his creative process and how
                  he brainstorms ideas.

“I’ll be in bed laying down, watching TV, and
my brain just kind of never turns off. I jot
down a lot of ideas in my notes on my
phone. I’m a morning producer. I wake up
early in the morning and that’s when I start
producing. I get all the ideas at night when
I’m laying down and then usually once I
open up Ableton, whatever flows from my
fingertips that’s what I decide to make. I try
to reference what I think about the night
before. I use that as a kind of starting point.”

Before parting ways with Malfunktion, I
asked him one final question. How does he
stay focused and overcome periods of
struggle and strife, which at times, we must
all endure? He’s using his North Coast
experience as a galvanizing force to steel
his inner mettle and motivate him forward.
